The book's premise is centered around Adlerian theory, a decades-old psychology coined by Alfred Alder, an Austrian psychotherapist. At the heart of the book, and Adlerian theory, is the idea that "freedom is being disliked by other people." The authors emphasize that when you follow where life is leading you, not everyone will be on board with what you're doing. While you shouldn't go out of your way to be disliked, you should avoid being afraid of being disliked because it is inevitable. This leads into one of the biggest lessons that the book touches on, which is that "happiness is a feeling of contribution."

Ichiro Suzuki strode onto the field at the Tokyo Dome and steadied himself for his first performance in that legendary stadium since his retirement from Major League Baseball more than four years earlier. Here he was again, now 50 years old and in full uniform. On this night, one of the purest hitters in the history of the game was preparing to pitch. Suzuki steadied his small frame, peered over his glove and stared down his fearsome opponent in the batter’s box.

[1/5] Taiko Nakamura samples whisky barreled in the year he founded at his distillery in Shizuoka, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan October 25, 2023. The explosion of craft whisky in Japan follows a boom and bust in the industry. Last week, Sotheby's offered what it claimed was the most valuable collection of Japanese whisky at auction, headlined by a 52-year old bottle that sold for 300,000 pounds ($373,830). Suntory, Japan's biggest and best-known whisky maker, recently invested 10 billion yen ($67 million) to upgrade its distilleries, including its Yamazaki site. "I believe we need to put all our effort into making Japanese whisky that lives up to the quality of the Japanese whiskies made by our predecessors," he said.

Souring relations between Asian rivals Japan and China now seem to be snagged on calm-inducing beauty in spas, museums and gardens. In recent years, koi have become hugely popular in Asia, with Japan's koi exports doubling over the past decade to 6.3 billion yen ($43 million) — one-fifth of them shipped to China, the top Japanese koi importer, followed by the United States and Indonesia. Fisheries Agency official Satoru Abe, in charge of koi quarantine, said China has not provided any explanation as to why it hasn't taken the necessary steps to continue koi shipments. IS THIS RELATED TO FUKUSHIMA DAIICHI'S TREATED WASTEWATER RELEASE? Abe, the koi quarantine official, said Fukushima’s wastewater release is unlikely to be the cause of the koi export stoppage, noting that China allowed Japanese koi in for two months after the water discharge began.

Wrongful judgment" after the The Tokyo High Court upheld a not guilty verdict for former Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) executives of negligence over the 2011 Fukushima nuclear power station disaster, in front of the court in Tokyo, Japan, January 18, 2023. REUTERS/Issei KatoTOKYO, Jan 18 (Reuters) - The Tokyo High Court on Wednesday upheld a not guilty criminal verdict by a lower court that cleared former Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) (9501.T) executives of negligence over the 2011 Fukushima nuclear power station disaster. The ruling on Wednesday to uphold the not guilty verdict sits at odds with a separate civil case brought to the Tokyo court by Tepco shareholders, which found four former executives responsible for the 2011 nuclear disaster. Judges ordered the former executives to pay 13 trillion yen ($99.14 billion) in damages in the civil lawsuit. The court judged that the executives could have prevented the disaster if they had exercised due care.
